A reined horse is one who has learned special techniques like sliding stops, spins and rollbacks, or speedy changes in direction. A cow horse is one that has been trained to work cattle including herding cattle and splitting a herd. A reined cow horse has mastered the skills of both a reined horse and a cow horse.
